Law & Order first aired on NBC in September 1990 and remains in production today. Its 18th season began in the fall of 2007 making it the longest running crime series and the second longest running drama series in the history of broadcast television.

A typical episode of Law & Order opens with an often topical crime followed by an investigation by the police and concluding with the prosecution of the crime by the justice system.
